Clients living in a house on a corner plot came to us looking to develop a single garage in their back garden. The potential development site was small and not very deep, with outlook limited to the front elevation. Planning permission was won for a new detached two-bedroom home adopting a coach house style of design and with materials selected to compliment the adjacent Victorian terrace.
To get the best internal layout, an open-plan ground floor was adopted with a large bay window to the front and with obscured slot windows to side and rear. All upstairs rooms have generous daylighting thanks to carefully positioned rooflights and the landing space was constructed to be multi-purpose with inclusion of a home office space that could be hidden when not in use. A glass and hardwood stair balustrade further helps to spread the light through the home.
